Last week it was confirmed that former Juventus youth player and former Italian youth international, Fausto Rossi was in Kansas City for a trial with Sporting KC. The 25 year old never played for the "Old Lady" but consistently played while loaned to teams in Spain and Italy over his time under contract with Juventus.
Italian media have been all over the speculative move, and Rossi's Twitter post showing him at Sporting KC's game vs the Houston Dynamo on Friday certainly helped to fuel it. Now over the last two days Italian media have really started to run with a potential contract Rossi will sign with the club. According to Tutto Mercato Web, Sporting KC and Rossi have agreed in principle to a three year contract with the club. The information was expanded upon Grazza Mercato which reported that along with the three year deal, Rossi's contract would be for €300,000, or about $336,000. What that means, if true is that Rossi's deal wouldn't be a designated player, which would technically still leave a spot open for Sporting KC to use elsewhere on the field.
The big question with this signing though would be what it would mean for the future of Benny Feilhaber with the club. There's been plenty of rumors lately of Feilhaber's departure and the possibility of him signing a pre-contract with a new club since he's in the final six months of his contract. And while I don't doubt that there is certainly some interest in Feilhaber I'm sure there's plenty of player/agent posturing in the stories that have come out regarding the interest in Feilhaber as well.
Both stories certainly are not done and will have a few more turns in them before they are.
Would he be eligible for MLS immediately?
ReplyDeleteonly if it's official before tomorrow's roster freeze
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any announcements today. Is there going to be any news today? Rossi, may not be the missing link to get through the playoffs, but there needs to be an adjustment to make the final push.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look like it, Sam McDowell said if we sign hi it won't be for this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response. What does the club hope to rely on for the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteThey're gonna rely on the team they currently have
ReplyDeleteThat does not imbue me with confidence.
