Since returning to Kansas City, Roger Espinoza has not been a figure with the Honduran national team. He was part of only one friendly in the first half of 2015, sat out the 2015 Gold Cup to be with Sporting KC, and missed the later half of the year because of his injury.
Now it appears that Espinoza will be returning to the Honduran national team. Reports out of Honduras are that Espinoza will be called up by head coach Jorge Luis Pinto for upcoming friendlies at the end of January and early February against Guatemala and Nicaragua. That means that Espinoza will join Matt Besler in missing a portion of preseason training with Sporting KC while with the Honduran team.
The friendlies are set up in preparation for World Cup qualifying to kick back off. Currently Honduras sits at the bottom of Group A with 0 points having lost their first two games to Mexico and Canada. Honduras will next play El Salvador in two games potentially with their hopes of making a third straight World Cup hanging in the balance.
