A quick throw back Thursday this week, since Sporting KC was in Columbus this past weekend I thought I'd share this video of the team's first head coach, Ron Newman from back in 1997 when the then Wizards played the Columbus Crew. The game took place on July 4th and saw Kansas City pull out a 2-1 at The Horseshoe even though Newman was thrown out of the game as he tried to help KC kill time after a pair of Digital Takawira goals in the 37th and 70th helped KC to get in front before Mike Lapper pulled a goal back in the 75th.
Newman had come to Kansas City after an extensive, and successful coaching career in indoor soccer. In fact he was the first manager named in MLS ahead of the league's first season in 1996.
That is so great! thanks for sharing
