Robb Heineman had mentioned this past weekend that the team had potential signings in town for games recently. Today, news out of the UK may have identified one of those players. According to the North Devon Journal out of Southwest England, West Bromwich Albion U21 player, Danny Barrow is set to sign for Sporting KC. The 19 year old midfielder is expected to play in a wide role for Kansas City and he says he's hoping to break into the first team by the end of the season when Sporting KC hosts Steven Gerrard and the LA Galaxy.
Depending on how he plays he's likely to need to beat out the likes of Connor Hallisey, Jacob Peterson, and Saad Abdul-Salaam for a spot in the first team for that game. That's if he really does sign. While the paper in England is reporting it's a done deal, it doesn't sound like it is finalized at this point. Although in a since deleted Tweet, Barrow said he's returning to KC, a signing doesn't look out of the question at all.
He'd be the first of what would be expected to be a few signings in this window for Sporting KC with the team down to 25 players currently on the team, and that includes injured defender Ike Opara who is on injured reserve, so really KC has four spots open right now. We'll see how that goes, but with the Marko Marin talk, the continued talk of needing more center back depth, and likely needing a third goalkeeper there's lots of roster spots that look to already be earmarked.
