Sporting KC Loan Update - Mixed Bag of Results

The season has started for both clubs that have Sporting KC players there on loan, and it's been a mixed bag for the two teams.

Sporting's USL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Energy is two games into their new season after a draw last week with in state rival, the Tulsa Roughnecks, drawing 1-1. They picked up their first win of the season this past weekend in Colorado Springs where they defeated the expansion Switchbacks 2-1 thanks to a late goal by Danni Konig. Sporting's Mikey Lopez, the only SKC player currently on loan to the USL affiliate has started both of the Energy's two games, playing 77 minutes in the draw with Tulsa and going 85 minutes in OKC's win over the Switchbacks. OKC is off this weekend before their home opener next weekend against the Seattle Sounders 2.

The news wasn't so good out of San Antonio where goalkeeper Jon Kempin, and first round draft pick, Saad Abdul-Salaam currently are playing. The Scorpions opened their defense of the NASL title at home against the visiting Tampa Bay Rowdies. Both Kempin and Abdul-Salaam started for the Scorpions as the Rowdies jumped out to a 1-0 lead after just 10 minutes. The Rowdies scored again just before half time and added a third just after the hour mark before Omar Cummings scored to pull a goal back for the Scorpions in a losing effort. Both Kempin and Abdul-Salaam went 90 minutes. The Scorpions will be at home again this week when they'll host the Indy Eleven at Toyota Field.
