Sporting Set to Sign Another Haitian? UPDATE: Mustivar Signed

Looks like Sporting Kansas City may have a new player heading their way. Peter Vermes has mentioned that Sporting KC was likely not done with player signings, and Robb Heineman has hinted at the signing of a defensive midfielder and a "number 10" for a little while now. Soni Mustivar, a French born, Haitian international is set to sign with the club according to reports out of France.

Mustivar, is a 25 year old midfielder, who started his career in France, playing for Bastia in the French second division as well as spending time on loan at US Orleans in France. During his time with Bastia, he was called up to the French U20 team. In 2011 he left the French club and eventually moved to Petrolul Ploiesti in the Romanian first division. During his time there, he switched from representing France to represent Haiti.

Mustivar would become the fourth Haitian to be on KC's roster in the last few years, joining the likes of Peterson Joseph, Mechack Jerome, and James Marcelin, who was acquired earlier this offseason.

UPDATE

This evening, Sporting officially announced the signing of Mustivar. The Haitian has appeared six times for his country and seems likely to feature this summer in the Gold Cup. His signing would mean that KC could be missing six players from the roster once the Gold Cup kicks off, with two from the US (Matt Besler and Graham Zusi), two from Honduras (Jorge Claros and Roger Espinoza), and two from Haiti (Mustivar and James Marcelin).

  1. Hi Mike, I would love to get your thoughts about having players from these smaller countries who feature frequently for their national teams. Since MLS and the Fifa calendar often conflict, it is frustrating to see our players be gone for international games during the season.
Looking back at last season, I wonder how it would have turned out for SKC had Besler and Zusi not been part of the World Cup team. I would love to see some discussion around this.
