K-State Spring Game at Sporting Park Confirmed

Sporting KC today confirmed that Kansas State University will be playing their spring football game at Sporting Park this year. Due to the renovations at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, the Wildcats were looking for a new location for this year's game. Rumors that Sporting Park would be the site of the game have been around for the last couple weeks and they were finally confirmed today. K-State will play their spring game at Sporting Park on the afternoon of April 25th.

Sporting KC is on the road that day, playing in Houston against the Dynamo. They do return home the next Sunday, May 3rd for an ESPN game against the Chicago Fire.

There have been plenty of questions asked about this move in the middle of the season for Sporting KC. Many of them are based off the history of issues the stadium has had with its playing surface since the stadium first opened. With the new playing surface the hope is that it will hold up better this year and avoid instances like the team had in their first few home games of 2014 (or at different times throughout the last 4 years at Sporting Park). I'm one of the people that is hesitant over this move. The concern comes mainly because of the stadium's history with the playing surface. If the ground's crew can prove that they can get the surface into good playing condition I'll be fine with the game. But based off of the history, I'm skeptical until they prove otherwise. Hopefully the new grass surface that was installed in 2014 will hold up better than the past surface.
