Reports out of Argentina today are stating that Sporting KC designated player, Claudio Bieler will be signing for Argentine Primera Division club,Quilmes today. Over the weekend, news came out of Argentina that Bieler had terminated his contract with Sporting KC and MLS and was headed to the club in the greater Buenos Aires area.
The reports are that the club will be announcing two signings at 6pm and 6:30pm local time (3pm and 3:30pm Central time). The first signing will be defender Mariano Uglessich while the 6:30 signing will be Claudio Bieler.
There's been no word from Sporting KC or MLS on Bieler's status, but it'd make sense for Sporting to get the Argentine off their books. Bieler played just over 400 minutes in league play last year, scoring just two goals, and takes up a designated player spot on the roster. With the emergence of Dom Dwyer as KC's go to center forward in Peter Vermes' 4-3-3 system, Bieler's time was going to be minimal.
This will give Bieler more of a chance to play, while opening up a DP slot for Kansas City to potentially use this season. It would also open over $300,000 in cap space for KC to use. One potential problem that it could cause is that this move combined with the trade of CJ Sapong leaves KC with Dwyer and Krisztian Nemeth as the only center forwards on the roster (and people are thinking Nemeth will end up being on the left wing).
