KC Closing in on Bringing Espinoza Back?

A little under two weeks ago, Taylor Twellman tweeted that he bet Roger Espinoza would be on Sporting KC's roster come January 1st. At the time the rumor made sense because Sporting still held the Hondurans MLS rights after he left on a free transfer to sign with Wigan after the 2012 MLS season and Espinoza had been relegated to the U21 team at Wigan.

Then yesterday the rumors started to grow further. Diez.hn in Honduras quoting Sporting head coach Peter Vermes said that he liked Espinoza and that "surely we will make a new contract." There is probably something lost in translation though as the quote in the article says that Espinoza is "only on loan" which we know isn't true. That is included with the tweet below from Diego Cora of ESPN.

For those that don't read Spanish, Cora said that Espinoza is closing in on his return to Sporting KC at this time.

That'd be a boost for Kansas City in midfield as it would give KC more bite in the midfield and would soften the blow if Paulo Nagamura leaves the club, and with him on a large contract and turning 32 early next season the team may look to transition him into a different role with the team.

It would also partner Espinoza up with national team partner, Jorge Claros.

Espinoza left Kansas City after the 2012 season for Wigan, who at the time was in the English Premier League. At the time, Espinoza signed a two and a half year contract with the club, that would see his contract expire at the end of the 2014-2015 Championship season for Wigan. But with him currently not even with the reserves, Espinoza may be looking for a way out, and Kansas City may be that answer for him.
