We'd heard that the Bundesliga was one of the three locations that Sporting KC captain, Matt Besler, was looking at, along with staying in KC and a move to the Premier League. Today, German magazine, Kicker has put the name of a German club to the interest in Besler.
SC Freiburg, who finished 14th in the 2013-2014 Bundesliga season is apparently one of the teams interested in Besler's services. One of Freiburg's current defenders, German, Matthias Ginter is linked with a move away from the club. That would on paper open a spot for Besler to come in and compete immediately for starting time.
On the other hand the same article references that Freiburg is also looking at Marc-Oliver Kempf, a 19 year old defender who has gotten some, but not a lot of time at Eintracht Frankfurt.
In Kansas City, Peter Vermes was still very optimistic on keeping Besler (and Graham Zusi) in Kansas City. Whether that happens will depend not just on Besler, but also on the bids that come in from the likes of Freiburg or other clubs. But expect more teams with rumored interest to come out before a final decision is made.
