Sporting Kansas City will be headed West should they beat the Portland Timbers tomorrow night at Sporting Park. The draw for the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup was held today and for the first time in this year's tournament, Sporting will be forced to travel if they win. The winner of the Sporting and Portland match will travel to face the winner of the San Jose vs Seattle game on either July 8th or 9th.
KC has already played both teams this season, losing 1-0 on the road to Seattle and winning 1-0 at home against the Earthquakes.
It'd be a busy time for Sporting with plenty of frequent flyer miles. KC plays at home against the Chicago Fire on Sunday the 6th. If they advance they'd then turn around and fly to the West Coast to take on either the Sounders or Earthquakes. The team would then turn around and fly back to KC before heading to the East Coast for a Saturday the 12th league match against the Montreal Impact. It wouldn't be an easy stretch at all, especially for a team that is still working to get over a number of injury issues.
