Sporting Kansas City will get another home game in the US Open Cup if they can get by Minnesota United in a couple weeks on the 18th.
Today the draw was held for the fifth round of the US Open Cup. Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota were draw together with the Portland Timbers and Orlando City U23. Sporting KC and Minnesota won the coin flip. What that means is that the winner of Sporting and Minnesota will host the fifth round game.
It'd be an interesting match up with Portland since the fifth round is schedule to take place on June 24th and 25th and KC take on the Timbers in league play in Portland on the 27th, so the two teams could be meeting 2 times in three days.
The other potential match up is less interesting, but still has interest to it. KC would be matched up with their affiliate's U23 team. The PDL version of Orlando City would see KC play a PDL side in the tournament again. Only once has a PDL team knocked KC out of the tournament (2000 on PKs). On the bad side every time KC has beaten a PDL team they've lost in the next round.
First though KC will need to get through the current leaders of the NASL spring season, Minnesota.
