I've decided that I am going to remove Sporting's players loaned out to their USL affiliates from the former player update and give them their own one. I'll be putting this out on Monday's going forward.
Sporting announced today that they'd already recalled one of their three loaned players, goalkeeper Jon Kempin. Sporting's back up goalkeeper, Andy Gruenebaum picked up an ankle sprain in training and is now questionable for Saturday's game against Real Salt Lake. With that injury, Sporting recalled the 20 year old to be Eric Kronberg's back up this weekend. Kempin will miss Oklahoma City's first game of the season on Saturday in California against the Orange County Blues, but will return in time for the game on Monday against the LA Galaxy II.
With Oklahoma City having not started their season yet, that means that Christian Duke has also not seen the field yet.
Only affiliate Orlando City had a game this past weekend, drawing 1-1 against Pittsburgh in their home opener. It was the second draw of the season for the Lions. Sporting's Mikey Lopez though was again an unused sub for Orlando in the game.
