The Missouri Comets ended the 2013-2014 regular season with a win over the Milwaukee Wave, in Milwaukee. The win was the Comets fourth over the Wave this year, the only team to beat Milwaukee all season.
The Comets grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first quarter through Lucas Rodriguez. In the second, the Comets and the Wave traded goals, with Bryan Perez finding net for the Comets and Nicolas Perera finding the net for the Wave all in the first five minutes of the quarter.
The third quarter saw just a single goal scored as Vahid Assadpour returned to the lineup for the first time since January, scored a goal to extend the Comets lead to 6-2. Just over a minute and a half into the fourth quarter though Marcelo Fontana put the led back at 2 as he beat Danny Waltman to make it 6-4. The Comets though rode some strong goalkeeping by Waltman throughout the game and just over seven minutes in, Rodriguez scored his second goal of the game, this one from three point range to extend the lead to 9-4. The Comets held on late with Waltman playing a big part.
The win means that these two teams will meet two more times this year in the playoffs. The teams will meet Sunday at the Independence Events Center and then the next day in Milwaukee. Of the potential match ups for Missouri this was the better match up, I'd rather they take on Milwaukee than Baltimore. Of Missouri's six losses this season, all six came against playoff teams (4-2 vs Milwaukee, 0-2 vs Baltimore, 0-2 vs Syracuse). So getting a match up against a team they've beaten is a plus for Missouri.
