US Soccer today announced the 26 man roster that will be convening in Carson this weekend for a World Cup preparation camp. Jurgen Klinsmann has named five Sporting KC players to the camp roster. Along with regulars Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, Benny Feilhaber returns to the national team and he's joined by first time call ups for Chance Myers and Seth Sinovic. The five call ups is the most representation of any team at the camp.
The team will train six days in Carson, the roster will be cut by three players and the 23 remaining will travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the US will be based for the World Cup, and train there from January 13th through the 25th. While in Brazil the team will play two closed door friendlies. The team will then return to Carson and the camp will finalize with a game against South Korea at the Stub Hub Center on February 1st.
Joining the five KC players are also three former players, the expected call up of Eddie Johnson, Luis Gil, and Michael Harrington finally gets a look at the national team level, another call up that I felt was past due after his early few years in the league.
The big competition in camp appears like it will involve two of Sporting's call ups. Myers and Sinovic are two of six outside backs called up for the camp. Joining them is Harrington, US regular Brad Evans, his club teammate DeAndre Yedlin, and Colorado Rapid, Chris Klute. All six are unlikely to go to Brazil, so it'll be interesting to see how Myers and Sinovic impress and if they can get plane tickets to Brazil for that part of camp. With the US as a whole struggling a bit with the wing back positions, that's probably the biggest opportunity for a player to make their way onto the World Cup roster.

The Klinnsman "go on loan" faux mandate has a little discussed plus. It opens up roster spots in camp.
At the margin Dempsey being at Fulham gives someone else the chance to travel to Brazil and/or play.
Feilhaber certainly could be a player with as much to gain from Dempsey's loan as anyone.
As a disclaimer, I didn't think it was appropriate for many, including defenders or players in knockouts of CCL.
