From the Comets
The Missouri Comets put on an offensive showcase to extend their winning streak to three games in front of 3,569 fans at Independence Events Center. Comets’ defender Brian Harris led the team with a hat trick, including a three-point goal for 7 points on the night. Milwaukee’s Carlos Munoz and Tony Walls tallied the only scores for the Wave as they fell 15-6.
In their last match against the Wave, the Comets jumped to several big leads, only to see their advantage disintegrate and ultimately end in an overtime loss. This match started off slightly slower than the last one, with Brian Harris’ three-point goal being the only score of the first quarter.
After weathering the Milwaukee offensive strategy, the Comets put together one of their best defensive performances of the season. Behind Coady Andrews and Stefan Stokic, the Comets defense only allowed 2 shots in the first quarter and six in the first half. Meanwhile, Leo Gibson and Harris led the Missouri attack with two and three goals respectively.
The Wave finally made their way onto the scoreboard late in the third quarter after a Carlos Munoz shot from beyond the arc deflected off a Comets defender and over the hands of a sprawling Danny Waltman. Tony Walls hit another three-point shot early in the fourth quarter to cut the Comets’ lead to 9-6. That’s as close as they got though. Leo Gibson scored back-to-back goals less than 20 seconds apart. Harris capped his team-leading night with less than four minutes remaining in the match. His score put the Comets ahead 15-6 and ended the Wave’s four-game winning streak
