Sporting KC defenders Matt Besler and Erik Palmer-Brown both ended up missing out on awards this week.
Starting defender, and US national team player, Belser was once again up for MLS defender of the year. Besler was a finalist along with New England's Jose Goncalves and LA's Omar Gonzalez. Besler ended up finishing a distant second to Goncalves who took the award. Goncalves finished with 36.74% of the club vote compared to Besler's 14.29%, 46.75% of the media vote to 27.27% and 18.83% of the player vote compared to 13.75%. In my opinion it's a fair win for the New England man, who had a very big season for the Revolution.
Sporting's latest home grown player, Palmer-Brown was also up for an award. The US U18 international was up for US Soccer's Young Male Athlete of the Year. Palmer-Brown ended up losing out on the award as well. The winner ended up being Columbus Crew midfielder, Will Trapp. Again it's hard to argue against this. Trapp, of the four nominees has had the most success so far at the club level along with playing for the youth national teams.
