So last night didn't go KC's way when it came to results. Chicago won in DC and Houston pulled out a win over Montreal. The results make the Eastern Conference that much tighter. KC is just two points ahead of 4th place Montreal, and only five above 5th place Chicago. Today there are a four matches, not counting KC's against Columbus, and all of them can have some affect on KC for playoff positioning.
New England at New York
What we want to happen - New England win.
A New England win here would mean that KC can't clinch a playoff spot this weekend, no matter their result against Columbus. But when it comes to the top of the East and the Supporters' Shield, KC has to hope that New York doesn't pick up many more points. The playoffs will come, but to keep pace for the Supporters' Shield and top seed in the East, KC needs the Revolution to pull out a win.
Toronto at Philadelphia
What we want to happen - Toronto win.
Although with wanting the above result makes clinching a playoff birth this weekend impossible, a Philadelphia loss would basically keep them from catching KC this season, even if KC loses to Columbus. So knocking another team out of the way of catching KC would be nice for Sporting.
Dallas at Real Salt Lake
What we want to happen - Dallas win
RSL sits three points ahead of KC in the race for the Suppporters' Shield. Even though Salt Lake has played one game more than KC currently, having Salt Lake drop points would be a boost for the chances of getting the Supporters' Shield. Especially if KC gets a win, at which point they'd tie RSL for points.
Seattle at Colorado
What we want to happen - Colorado win
Another game with Supporters' Shield ramifications. Seattle, like RSL, sits three points ahead of KC, currently on 51 points. The difference is that Seattle has played one game fewer than KC, and two games fewer than RSL and New York. So them dropping points is big for KC if they hope to catch and pass the Sounders.
