Today Sporting KC announced a new signing to the club. The team announced that they'd signed Erik Palmer-Brown from their academy. The 16 year old Palmer-Brown becomes the third, and so far youngest, Sporting academy signing. He joins Kevin Ellis and Jon Kempin as home grown players for the club. Palmer-Brown has spent most of the last year down at the Bradenton Academy with the US U17 team.
I wouldn't expect Palmer-Brown to have much of any role with the team this season, but you have to at least be impressed with the potential of the defender. Palmer-Brown isn't done growing yet most likely and is already 6-1, 175. He could easily end up being in the 6-4 range which would be great for a centerback. And now he gets to learn everyday not just one, but two former MLS Defenders of the Year in coach Peter Vermes and starter Matt Besler.
