Today US Soccer held the draw for the 4th round of the 100th edition of the US Open Cup. Sporting Kansas City enters the tournament this coming week against the Des Moines Menace in the 3rd round of the tournament. Should KC advance past the PDL side, Sporting Park will host the 4th round of the tournament as well.
KC's opponent for the game would be one of the Colorado Rapids or Orlando City. Those two teams meet next Tuesday down in Orlando in their 3rd round match up. With Orlando hosting the match against Colorado it could lead to an interesting situation where KC plays their USL affliate, where Christian Duke, Dom Dwyer, Jon Kempin, and Yann Songo'o are all currently playing. Dwyer and Kempin became cap tied to the Lions after appearing for them last night in Orlando's second round win over the Ocala Stampede. The question would be whether any of those four would be able to play against Sporting in the game should Orlando advance. Usually when a player is on loan to another club and that team plays the players' parent club, the loaned player does not play in the game. The reason for this is that it could raise questions of the integrity of the game if Dwyer or Kempin were to mess up. On the other hand I personally think those two (or any of the four loaned players I only mention those two cause they're cap tied already) would want to play against the parent club. Either way I'll be interested to know if the two could play should KC advance.
