Sporting KC was set to close out their preseason this coming Saturday in Florida in the 3rd place game against the Philadelphia Union. When that game was announced though there immediately became questions of whether the game would take place. The reason for that is because a week from this coming Saturday, Sporting KC is set to kick off the 2013 MLS season against the same Philadelphia Union in Philadelphia. Initially it was wondered whether the game would be played at all, or whether the teams would switch opponents with another match up.
According to Steven Goff today, a switch in opposition has taken place. KC and DC United who were both in group B for the tournament have switched opponents. DC was set to face off against Toronto FC in the 5th place match. Now Sporting will take on Toronto while Philadelphia will face DC. According to Goff on Twitter, the Kansas City vs Toronto game will take place at 3pm. KC will play Toronto twice to close out preseason, as the two are set to play tomorrow in a game as well. That game seems likely to be one mainly for reserves. With those two preseason games, Sporting will play 3 of their next 4 games against Toronto, because after KC open their regular season against Philadelphia, they'll go to Toronto the following week for their home opener.
