Sporting KC is set to announce the clubs 4th ever designated player tomorrow at 1pm on their Youtube channel. The announcement continues a whirlwind few weeks for the club that's seen them bring in 4 new players already (Josh Gardner, Benny Feilhaber, Ike Opara, and Yann Songo'o) and re-sign fan favorite Matt Besler.
Tomorrow's expected announcement should fill the one void that KC hasn't addressed so far this offseason, striker. Unless something shocking happens, tomorrow's announcement should be the signing of Claudio Bieler. The 28 year old Argentine striker has made a name for himself with LDU Quito in the Ecuadorian league, helping them win the 2008 Copa Libertadores and finish second to Manchester United at the FIFA Club World Cup the same year. Bieler has been an impressive scorer, especially with Quito where he's averaging almost a goal every other game for the club. Just looking at that number is remarkable. But this is coming from someone who has seen maybe one of their games all time. I know little of the Ecuadorian Serie A.
He's be the second youngest of Sporting's DPs, with only Jeferson being younger. The Brazilian Jeferson has easily been the worst of KC's DPs, with only 1 assist in 11 MLS appearances). The hope is that he'll be closer or exceed Omar Bravo and Claudio Lopez, the team's other two DPs who had a little more success in the league (Bravo 9 goals 2 assists in 28 MLS appearances, Lopes with 13 goals 16 assists in 59 MLS appearances).
