Kamara, Reserves, and Open Tryout News

With Roger Espinoza serving a one game suspension in Honduras' qualifier last night against Panama, Kei Kamara was the only Sporting KC player that competed in the latest set of qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.  Today in Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone took on the Nzalang Nacional in their second qualifier as they attempted to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.  Sierra Leone fell behind 1-0 early, before two goals in the 23rd and 30th minute put the Leone Stars ahead 2-1.  Another strike before half time leveled the score though.  A 52nd minute red card saw Sierra Leone reduced to 10 men, but they held on for the 2-2 draw.  Kamara went 90 minutes for the Leone Stars in the game.  Currently Sierra Leone sit second in the group on 4 points behind group leader Tunisia.  The top team in their group will advance to the net stage of qualifying.  Sierra Leone's next qualifier for the World Cup isn't until March of next year.

The bigger match for Sierra Leone though occurs in a week, when the Leone Stars will try to keep their 2013 African Cup of Nations qualification hopes alive against São Tomé and Príncipe.  Sierra Leone trails in the head to head series 2-1 after their away leg back in February.  The Leone Stars need to win by a 1-0 score line of by 2 goals to advance.  A 2-1 win would cause extra time, while any other 1 goal win would see the Falcons and True Parrots advance on away goals.

Reserves Fall in Colorado

Sporting KC didn't have a league game this weekend, but they did travel to Colorado for a reserve game against the Rapids.  Due to the number of injuries they've had though, there were quite a few Juniors players and trialists that not only dressed, but started for the reserves in the game.  The reserves were behind 1-0 at the half, and were down 3-0 early in the second half before Soony Saad pulled one back for the Rangers.  The game is the last for the reserves until mid August when they play Houston.  With the busy schedule for KC coming up it's a good thing at least that they don't have the reserve games to worry about.

Call Backs for Open Tryouts

I'd completely spaced out that the open tryouts were this weekend, the team made no specific announcement of it stating who the players were that were competing this year.  The team has posted the list of players that  made the second day of the tryouts though.  Here's a quick look at some of the players that I've found.
