Today word came out from Peter Vermes and Sporting KC that the team has decided not to appeal the red card against Roger Espinoza in KC's 2-1 loss to Chicago. Vermes said that they decided not to appeal for "many reasons." Certainly one of those reasons is probably the word frivolous. If the disciplinary committee deems an appeal frivolous, they can double the suspension. I still believe that when the league disciplinary committee meets, Espinoza will get an extra game but we'll have to see. I also expect we'll hear about a fine for Vermes as well.
In other news, congratulations need to go out to Sporting KC, Livestrong Sporting Park, and Robb Heineman tonight for winning awards today in Italy. Livestrong Sporting Park was up for four awards, winning the award for Venue of the Year and Community Award. It lost out to Etihad Stadium in Manchester for the Customer Experience award and lost to The American Express Community Stadium in Brighton. Robb Heineman won the award from Executive of the Year, beating out executives from the NBA and English soccer. Finally, Fan360, the Sporting Innovations product won the Product Innovation award. Going up against stadiums and executives from around the world is a great statement about what the team has done and is continuing to do.
