The goal was also Sapong's 3rd game winning goal in all competitions, tying him with Diego Gutierrez, Carey Talley, Onandi Lowe, Chris Henderson, Frank Klopas, and Aurelein Collin for 19th place on that list.
The assist for Graham Zusi was his 12th in all competitions for KC, tying him with Eric Quill for 20th on the all time list for KC.
Sporting KC is now 11-4-2 all-time in season openers, the best mark among all MLS teams. KC has lost only one season opener in the last 11 seasons.
