When Sporting KC selected Cyprian Hedrick with the 30th pick of the Superdraft, quite a few people were surprised by the selection. But in the videos post draft, you could hear the excitement in Peter Vermes' voice at getting the Coastal Carolina grad. Today, Sporting KC officially announced the signing of the Cameroonian center back, adding him to the roster.
Hedrick joins Aurelien Collin, Matt Besler, Lawrence Olum, and Julio Cesar in the mix for centerback minutes, although Cesar is likely to spend the majority of his time in the midfield. Also in the mix is Daneil Cyrus, but the Trinidad and Tobago defender has yet to be in camp with the team.
Counting the recently signed Hedrick, and Cyrus and Birahim Diop (who also has not been in camp), KC has 29 players under contract. That would leave 1 roster spot open for KC's remaining draft picks, Shawn Singh, Stefan Antonijevic, and Kyle Miller. But with Cyrus and Diop not in camp, it'll be interesting to see if KC doesn't end up signing all 3 of them and cutting Cyrus and Diop loose.
