A Look at the Depth Chart

With the first preseason game of the season under their belts, KC is one step closer to the start of the season. We are only 33 days from the first game of the season at DC United on March 10th. With plenty of people seeming to be fairly in unison on who the majority of the starting 11 is, let's take a look at the depth chart. Peter Vermes over the last few years has seemed to have an interest in picking up guys that can play multiple positions. And it's proven here with lots of players showing in 2 or more different positions for Sporting.

Projected starters are in bold. Players currently not under contract currently are italicized.

Plenty of the depth the further you go can go a few different ways. There are a few arguments that can be made in a few places, none more apparent than at center forward where you could argue for Teal Bunbury or CJ Sapong to be the starter.

Goalkeeper - Jimmy Nielsen, Eric Kronberg, Jon Kempin, Steve Spangler, Scott Angevine

Left back - Seth Sinovic, Michael Harrington, Korede Aiyegbusi, Roger Espinoza, Bobby Convey, Shawn Singh

  2. Have to think the team is looking at a attacking mid/left wing kinda guy, least I hope they are.

Did Convey just play wing at Reading or did he ever play in the middle?

  3. I continue to find it strange that Bunbury is positioned as the center forward when he has shown time and again to lack the ability to play well with his back to goal. His first touch, well, I call him "cement feet."

I am quite aware that the outside forwards must also come back more defensively, which doesn't seem to suit him. And I am aware that Teal has shown a great ability to make fantastic runs from the center onto through balls from our defensive third.

But unless he can develop his touch and do some back-to-goal holding, he should be working outside. Seriously, Kamara is a better center forward. And I personally would start CJ in the middle.

I do like the thought of Convey out on the left. I can see he might bring some of the same attacking qualities that Bravo did. I certainly hope he can show us some scoring touch.

  4. Any update on Diop's status? You have him at the very bottom for all three of his positions.

Is Warzycha really ahead of Nagamura at AM? I would probably add Convey as the fourth option at that position.

Given that you show Dwyer ahead of Saad at CF and RF, is he really incapable of playing LF?
