US national team U23 coach, Caleb Porter, today announced his upcoming roster for the team's camp in Frisco, TX. The 23 man roster will start on Sunday the 19th of February. The camp will end on the 29th when the US team takes on the Mexican U23 team at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco.
Included on the roster, is Sporting KC forward, Teal Bunbury. Bunbury is one of 8 forwards included on the roster, 5 of whom are based in the US in MLS. It'll be interesting to see how Bunbury fits in though, because many of the forwards included on the roster play very different games. So with the likes of Freddy Adu, Juan Agudelo, Joe Gyau, and Brek Shea, along with others, it'll be interesting to see where Bunbury fits in with that team. The camp is likely one of the last opportunities to impress before the Olympic qualifiers kick off on March 22nd for the US.
Bunbury will miss a good stretch of the team's preseason training in Orlando. Bunbury will miss all 3 group games of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic that Sporting is competing in while in Orlando. He could possibly play in the championship or consolation game on the 3rd should Peter Vermes want him too, but I think Vermes would give him a rest after the camp.
With Bunbury gone, it certainly provides an opportunity to other players on the roster, especially reserve strikers, Dom Dwyer and Soony Saad, giving them a chance to impress Vermes while in Orlando.
