Today was the first stage of the MLS Re-Entry draft. Like last year it was a fairly quiet round, with most teams choosing to pass instead of taking a player at their current salary or at a bona fide offer. Only 3 players were selected in the draft. Arturo Alvarez was picked up by Chivas USA, Columbus picked up Carlos Mendes, and New England grabbed Danleigh Borman. KC decided to sit out the first stage not making any selections.
KC will now look towards the second stage a week from today. Sporting defender, Shavar Thomas will also be looking towards the second stage next week as well to possibly be selected by a team. The two remaining candidates I put on my original list are still out there, Baggio Husidic and Ryan Cochrane both could be available in the second stage.
