Comets Remain Unbeaten

From the Comets

The Comets once again faced an expansion team making their home debut. Once again, they relished playing the role of spoiler as they control play from the start and go home with a 13-4 win. Ryan Junge led the team with 5 points on two goals, Vahid Assadpour chipped in two of his own, Leo Gibson and newly signed Cristiano each had one as well.

The Rochester Lancers clearly did not know what to expect from the Comets at the start of the game. They chose to sit back and load players into the box as they watched the Comets set up play. The Comets took advantage and dominated play throughout the first quarter. Vahid Assadpour and Leo Gibson doubled up on Lancers defender Will Kletzien to steal the ball and worked a great 1-2 combination for the first goal. After one quarter, Comets led 2-0.

Ryan Junge only needed 4 minutes 26 seconds and a great pass from Byron Alvarez to put a shot into the back of the net. Byron controlled a pass off the wall and backed into the goal box like a basketball forward. Junge snuck up to the outside and was waiting as Byron laid off a great ball, smashing it into the net. A Jeremy Ortiz goal 2 minutes later finally got the Lancers on the board and the teams went into the halftime break with the Comets leading 4-2

The second half belonged to the Comets. Once again they dominated play, but this time by design. The Lancers tried several times to push play forward and had a few odd-man chances, but the Comets’ stifling defense and Goalkeeper/Brick Wall Danny Waltman were there every time to stop the attack. The one bright spot for the Lancers was a beautiful bicycle kick from forward Mauricio Salles that he zoomed past Waltman.

The Comets are back home in the Independence Events Center Friday and Sunday against Baltimore and Milwaukee respectively. Friday night at 7:35pm fans can take home a magnet schedule with a Comets logo car magnet. Sunday afternoon at 3:10pm is the world famous Mascot Game.

  1. Are you going to cover the Comets again this year, like last? No break down of the roster, season projections, etc..

    Very disapointing.

  2. Very disappointing? He doesn't have to do it at all. He's doing it to keep people like you up to date. It's obvious that Sporting is his favorite of the two teams, maybe he's taking a little bit of a break since Sporting's season just ended.

You want to pay him to do this then I'd be disappointed, but since he's getting next to nothing for this I appreciate anything extra he gives.

  3. Dan easy buddy. Do yourself a favor and go punch yourself in the face.

Simple question. I read Mike's blog daily and have forever. If you put something out for the public then, then the public has the right to ask a question.

Hopefully you give yourself a black eye.

  4. Actually Dan is fairly accurate in his assessment, I have been a little burned out since the season ended and have been taking a step back and spending more time with my son. I'll be picking the comets stuff up more soon.

But if someone wants to pay me to do this I'd be more than happy to give more in depth Comets stuff.
