Disgraceful

The worst thing about tonight's game was not the Michael Kennedy no-PK call, it was the response by the Cauldron. I've been in the Cauldron since it was in the corner of Arrowhead, section 114 and I've never really felt ashamed of being there. Tonight I did. Seriously disgraceful crap by multiple fans who felt it was alright to throw shit on the field after Kennedy blew the penalty call. This is how you treat a $200 million facility? By throwing shit onto the field? Yes is frustrating watching Kennedy once again job us out of a result, but you make the rest of the fans in the section look like drunk assholes, not just to the rest of the people in attendance, but to the people all over the US that were watching the game. Thankfully ESPN apparently spent most of the bottle throwing time showing replays of Kennedy's call so KC was spared a little embarrassment. But seriously, grow up, you look like idiots. And you make the rest of us look like idiots by association.

  2. Hear, hear. Well said. I was screaming at everyone around me to stop throwing shit on the field. No little effect, sadly.

  3. Hopefully behavior will be better for future games when there isn't like 4 hours of pregame entertainment/drinking time...

  4. AMEN! I was ashamed by the cow dude and the crap thrown on the field. Just ridiculous.

  6. Passion is a double edged sword. Hopefully, the crowd can find a better balance than showing that kind of disrespect. But all in all the crowd activity was the best I've experienced outside of a couple of past playoff games.

You guys did a great job on the signs. However, I think that "Welcome to the Blue Hell" has an odd ring to it: "Welcome to Blue Hell" seems better to me.

  7. Agree on no 'the' in the blue hell sign.

Disgraceful way to treat the stadium and your team and the game with the trash on the field and the bottles.

Anyone else heard the rumor of the Cow streaker being a Chicago Fire prank for calling us a Cow-town?

  8. a large portion of the bottle throwing and other shit pertains to a couple of incidents with the security guys getting a bit handsy. did you see any of that?

  9. It just shows when things are going against you all season that they just don't get any better sometimes. Blantant penalty, but both teams were just as good as each other, and I think the Fire were a bit better overall. From what I've seen on TV the throwing of "shit" wasn't that big of a deal. Yes, we didn't see it all but I don't think we should worry about it. KC with 7 points is a bigger deal in my opinion. It may not be positive atmosphere, but a positive one can come of it with the right attitude approaching it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if the suits come down heavy handed. The stadium did look great, even though some people threw stuff on the field; worse can always happen at a football match. At least people aren't getting physically hurt.

  10. What happened to Alex Smith? We're in big trouble if he's injured again. This team is totally listless without him.

Also, I love Graham Zusi's hustle, but the guy just isn't very good. He can't cross and he can't shoot. He's like the shitty yin to Chance Myers' comically incompetent yang.

  11. Anon. at 2:21 that's bull shit if you're using anything that security did as an excuse to throw shit on the field, do the rest of the fans a favor and stop showing up. Period.

  12. I agree with the blog post entirely. I still want to see the no-pk call reviewed by the US referees week in review vlog.

  13. Drew, I think you meant both teams were equally bad, not good. PK was a blown call, but good God, STOP PLAYING THE LONG BALL!!!! Get some possession, play through the midfield, and GD Teal get some touch, man!

Oh, and when did Alex Smith sign with our team, haha.

Yes, the stadium is amazing. I love it. Now I just hope our team can catch up to the quality of our house!

  14. The cow did take the best shot on the Chicago goal all night.

  15. Watching on television the worst of "shit on the field" was the confetti and streamers from the opening. ESPN2 covered the incidents well.

For eternity, Fire fans will recall the throwing incident and the attendees there for the event aspect looking for a reason to not come back will cling to it as well.

Otherwise, it is just another incident in a long history of such across all sports in the US. I've seen it happen in multiple pro venues across the major sports, I doubt there are many if any colleges that have not had similar occur in football and basketball. I've seen it at high school games.

Don't like it, don't condone it, but also don't read much into it.

It's up to the fans to figure out who they are as a fan base. They can endorse it with a "Hell yeah" or they can make sure security is able to find the offenders and eject them and they can make sure those people don't feel welcome amongst them.

  16. The obvious answer is to have cameras fixed on the supporters section. Anyone caught throwing stuff onto the pitch gets banned from the stadium.

  17. I totally agree with all the comments here. The throwing was embarrasing, but I also knew that the cops and security would over react. The cow on the field wasn't really a big deal and mildly entertaining at best. I thought the very large security woman tackling the cow on the field linebacker style was both sad and amusing to observe. That woman was BIG! Also, cops handcuffing him on the field was a bit of an over reaction and not something that fans really needed to see.

A better response: flank the guy on both sides, escort him off the field, and cuff him when he's out of sight. I think that this only caused the majority of fans to 'boo' or 'moo' at the cops, and that's certainly something that really shouldn't go down.

But, the cow scored the only goal of the game, and the actual game was somewhat dire. We got outplayed by a thoroughly mediocre Chicago side, and it just shows that something needs to happen for KC.

Finally, the hired security were WAY too aggressive in my opinion. I was in the supporter's section and felt pretty uncomfortable everytime this Mr. T looking twat patrolled up and down the bleacher section with this "I want to kick someone's ass; I pity the fool whose ass I'm going to kick" expression all over his face. Combine all the pre-game binge drinking with a heavy handed security staff and only bad shit WILL and CAN go down. I think that maybe Sporting should hire a more experienced and mild security staff next time.

  18. Maybe Vermes can apply for a security job- since he SHOULD be out of one.

Maybe the cow can apply for the forward position
