Sporting to Appeal Collin Red Card

Sporting Kansas City announced today that they will be appealing the red card that was given to Sporting KC defender Aurelien Collin in the team's 3-2 loss to New England last weekend. Collin was given the red card after an altercation after a Sporting KC corner kick. On the play Collin went up for a header against Revolution goalkeeper, Matt Reis. The two collided and both hit the ground. Reis' teams took offense to the rough (but legal) challenge and got in Collin's face as he got up. With Collin's teammates helping him to his feet, Benny Feilhaber got right into Collin's face. Birahim Diop reaches his arm around Feilhaber and pushes him back. Feilhaber makes a meal of the push and goes to ground. Referee Edvin Jurisevic stepped in and handed the Frenchman a straight red card.

MLS rules state that the only way that a red card can be appealed is in the case of mistaken identity. This looks like it's a clear cut case of that, as Diop, not Collin is the one that pushed Feilhaber. The league will make their decision later this week. Should the suspension be overturned, Collin would be available for this weekend's game against New York.
