On the same day that KC announced the trade of Jack Jewsbury, the team announced the signings of three new players that will be on the roster for the 2011 season. The first of those, is first round draft pick, CJ Sapong. The number 10 overall pick is the least surprising of the three signings. KC liked the size and look of Sapong and his ability to play any of the three forward positions in the 4-3-3 formation.
The second signing was second round supplemental draft pick, Mike Jones. Jones is the second highest remaining draft pick still around after Sapong, due to JT Murray and Sam Scales being waived and Konrad Warzycha's knee surgery. Jones at the moment looks set to fight for time in the center of defense in the reserve league. The amount of play he gets will likely be a little dependent on who of the remaining center back trialists (mainly Julio Cesar Santos Correa and Daneil Cyrus) are signed, if any.
Finally, the last signing is Scott Lorenz. Lorenz spent last year with the NSC Minnesota Stars. Lorenz trialed with KC last year and did enough to be invited to preseason. News of Lorenz's signing leaked out this morning when he posted on Facebook that he'd signed. Inside Minnesota Soccer reported today that it is a one year contract for Lorenz. Lorenz looks set to be the primary back up for Roger Espinoza at left back as Lorenz made keeping second round pick Murray unnecessary.
