Last night we heard that a deal for forward Omar Bravo was mere hours away, today reports out of Mexico indicate that a deal is now done. But those looking to see Bravo in Wizards blue this season look like they'll have to wait. The reports say that the Wizards will loan Bravo to Chivas for the rest of 2010. This was a deal that Chivas had wanted, so that Bravo could play in the Copa Libertadores final and the Apertura season down in Mexico. Bravo, whose loan with Chivas ended today will return to Chivas again on loan. This time instead of being loaned from his club in Spain, it'll be from the Wizards.
Take the news for what you will, because the Google translation of the article does say that the team is currently in last place (which they are not) and have no chance of qualifying for the playoffs (it's still a long shot, but they still have a chance).
I am not sure what to make of this news. On one side I'm happy that the team is working to bring in a designated player. On the other side, I had hoped it would have been for this season to help in a playoff push, especially with the two open roster spots that we currently have after the loaning of Sunil Chhetri and Aaron Hohlbein. Guess we'll have to wait and see on final word of the deal, either way this entire thing is giving me a headache.
This signing is a ridiculous signing and the reason it's for next season is for the new stadium/re-branding. Once again it's a MLS team trying to bring in Mexican players to boost attendance. The ignorance of MLS execs is that Mexican players bring in fans. No it's winning.
ReplyDeleteI think the Wizards are trying to win, yes I wish it was for this year, but what has been our biggest problem this year, giving up soft goals and sending escobar packing and bringing back Thomas has fixed that and finishing. Unless we do soemthing finishing will still be an issue next year and this kid can finish. If we have to give him up for the rest of this year to have him for another 5 I am good with it. The Wizards FO have made some real good signings in the last 12 months I will trust them on this one as well.
ReplyDeleteId rather have Bravo next year, than no Bravo at all
ReplyDeleteThey made it work, credit for that.
Agreed.....a delayed Bravo is better than no Bravo
ReplyDeleteFinishing has been the biggest problem true.... I think wolff is done for, hes has been a great servant to the club but is now gatbage, Rocastle is also garbage, the defense is better but the problem now as it always has been is a number ten. Bravo, would be a better finisher than the inconistent Karmara and would be great but if youre gonna get a #10, Castro, Medina, Pineda and ZInha, from the Mexican Leaugue would light this league on fire, and would transform the Wizards in to tile favoirtes if not just contenders. A player like Medina or Castro who were on World cup team would be great, but probably to expensive...
ReplyDeleteLet's face it, everything is focused on next year at this point.
ReplyDeleteI understand such a mindset with the current mediocre play and all the excitement looking forward toward the new stadium, re-branding, and all. Bravo will be a good addition to this whole effort.
More DP help is needed, however, or we'll be hardly better off next year despite our shiny new stadium
