The Wizards played their next to last preseason game in Arizona today as they took on the Columbus Crew. Thanks to a second half strike by Graham Zusi the Wizards came away with a 1-1 draw with the two time defending Supporters' Shield winners. KC fell behind on a goal by Brian Carroll after Eric Kronberg was caught off his line after a clearance. The Wizards apparently had some nice spells of possession, earning a PK on a foul on Josh Wolff. Davy Arnaud put the PK away, but it was called back due to encroachment, former Wizard, Will Hesmer saved the second attempt.
In the second half, the Wizards were apparently the better side, as Santiago Hirsig hit the bar and the follow up was missed by Igor Kostrov. The game saw the return of Wizards midfielder, Jack Jewsbury to play after offseason surgery. And while new goalkeeper, Jimmy Nielsen has joined the team, he did not appear in the game. The Wizards close out the Arizona leg of their preseason Sunday against the Arizona Sahuaros and Grand Canyon University.
