Roger Espinoza appeared in all of Honduras' games in the Gold Cup recently, but he
did not get himself a spot on the Honduran's World Cup Qualifying roster for the upcoming qualifier against Costa Rica on August 12th. While some people may be a little surprised since Espinoza has been a staple at least in camp for most of this round of qualifying, it's not incredibly surprising. With Espinoza missing almost a month while away at the Gold Cup, the Honduran coach could be looking to avoid burning bridges with Coach Onalfo by letting Espinoza stay with the Wizards for this round of qualifiers. I think Espinoza will definitely be back with the national team soon.
Dang...
ReplyDeleteWhat don't you like about Roger? He's actually been playing fairly well this season and looked good for Honduras in the Gold Cup, I'm excited to see him come back from that and play more for us now.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Roger do anything that merits starting over some other Wizards on the bench right now. He tends to put his head down too much. He could have teammates circling around him and he barely looks up. Watch Claudio react to this aspect of Espinoza's game.
ReplyDeleteObviously Onalfo disagrees and he keeps getting time and significant looks. I wonder if Souter and Harrington got as many looks at outside Mid if they wouldn't be more effective than Roger.
I wish him well for the Wizards sake, but so far I haven't seen enough to get on his bandwagon.
Espinoza is great on the defensive side of the ball and can do things going forward like beating his man off the dribble that basically the rest of the roster cant do. His choices of what to do when he has the ball have been his weak spot, but that has improved slowly this year. He looked pretty good in the Gold Cup.
ReplyDeleteWhat im saying is he has potential. Its also hard to gauge anything with the Wizards because of how bad the play has been for the last month and half.
