The draw for the third round of the US Open Cup was held today. Whoever the Wizards play, they'll have a chance for revenge on a team that knocked them out of the competition in previous years. Kansas City will play the winner of next Tuesday's game between the Chicago Fire PDL or the Minnesota Thunder. Those two teams meet Tuesday the 16th in Blaine, MN at 7:05 pm local time.
Should the Fire PDL team win, the Wizards would host them at Shawnee Mission North High School on Tuesday June 30th at 7:30 pm. The Fire PDL team played the Wizards to a 0-0 draw in the 2000 version of the Open Cup, and eventually prevailed on penalty kicks 7-6.
Should the Thunder win, the Wizards will travel up to Minnesota and play at the National Sports Center at 7:05 pm. The Thunder defeated the Wizards in the 2005 US Open Cup, 3-1 up in Parkville. The two teams also met this preseason up in Cedar Rapids, IA with the Wizards taking a match up against the first team 4-0. The reserves drew the Thunder 1-1.
I assume everyone would like to have the home game for this one?
