Demolition Continues

With soccer fans not just in KC, but around the US now talking about the new stadium renderings for the Wizards, the facility seems more realistic now to some. For that all to get built, though, the buildings currently there need to come down. It looks like the mall itself could be down within the next two weeks or so. The crew has basically ripped out the entire inside of Sears and is working on the outside now. Here is the full album for this week.

That looks like a lot more than 2 weeks demolition and a whole lot of clean up to me. I thought I remembered reading that there was a snag with this stadium. Will construction of the stadium begin as soon as the site is prepped?

Any answer will do. Don't be shy fellas.

Most likely, but more buildings have to go down first.

I believe the biggest hold-up at present is securing an anchor tennant that meets the requirements of the city/state? that will allow the project to get the TIF money it needs to go forward. I believe the tennant has to be a certain size employer, which I can't recall the exact number. In this economy, finding a large company to relocate is obviously very difficult. So, the demolition is going veeeeeery sloooowly.

I asked a guy that knew a bunch about the projects around KC yesterday day on NPR about the stadium and the problem of getting retail since those projects center around it and was told that the saving grace maybe that 2 of the owners of OnGoal LLC are making tons of money off of electronic medical billing software etc. and that they may move their corperate office to the site to help. Im sure you could find a podcast of the segment
