The Wizards 2009 MLS Draft is finished with no big moves by the Wizards to move up or down. The Wizards kept all their picks, getting a defender, a forward, 2 midfielders and a goalkeeper.
With the 8th pick, the Wizards took Matt Besler of Notre Dame, a local product, who will likely play along the back line. With their second pick, the Wizards grabbed Doug DeMartin from Michigan State, who is a forward. They followed that pick up by taking the Offensive MVP of the College Cup, Graham Zusi. Their third round pick was in goal against Zusi in the semifinal, St. John's goalkeeper, Neal Kitson. With their final pick, the Wizards selected another midfielder, this one from UConn, who is also a member of the Jamaican U-23 team, Akeem Priestley.
I'll have a more full writeup on the draft including quotes from Besler, Coach Onalfo, and Peter Vermes either later tonight or tomorrow.
