Wizards technical director, Peter Vermes will remain with the Wizards. Bob Luder is reporting that Vermes had been offered the job of GM with the LA Galaxy, following the firing of Alexi Lalas. Vermes turned the position down. Honestly I can't blame him for it. The situation in LA is a circus and almost a no win situation for the man that takes the GM position. While in KC, Vermes likely has more time to work with than he would have if he was in LA. That's not to say that KC doesn't expect to win now, but OnGoal and their current strategy with the team seems to allow Vermes more time to work in his position.
In LA he would have been under pressure from AEG from the get go to help Bruce Arena put a winning team on the field immediately. All while handicapped a bit with the salaries of Beckham and Donovan. It just doesn't seem like the best position for him to walk into, and it's not overly surprising he turned it down.
I don't blame him either...what a mess to walk into! Glad he's staying - showing that he's committed to the organization and to the team.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad we don't have to listen to Arena as a color commentator for a while now.
