For the first time since the second game of the season, the Wizards scored more then one goal in an MLS game. Goals by Jimmy Conrad and Davy Arnaud helped the Wizards to the 2-1 win over Red Bull New York tonight at Community America Ballpark.
The Wizards started the first half strong, keeping the action in New York's end of the field. It paid off in the 11th minute when Conrad met a Claudio Lopez corner with his head for his fourth goal of the season. As the half continued, the momentum shifted and New York had some decent chances as Kevin Hartman looked into the setting sun. The Wizards made it into the half though without allowing a goal. KC came out hard again in the first half, as just over a minute in, Kurt Morsink played in Arnaud who beat Jon Conway and made it 2-0.
Again, KC continued to pressure, but couldn't get another goal. As the match continued I started to feel like I was watching a repeat of Friday's game in Dallas. Onalfo subbed in both Roger Espinoza and Ryan Pore for Scott Sealy and Ivan Trujillo, two subs Onalfo made on Friday. New York continued to press hard, and were rewarded when Dane Richards crossed to Juan Pablo Angel, who headed past Hartman. The attacking continued, but Hartman was up to the challenge, punching away a bullet of a shot from Richards before being saved by his post on the ensuing corner. He made another fine save in the same sequence, knocking Dave van den Bergh's shot wide for a corner that New York couldn't convert. With the win, KC moves to .500 at 5-5-5, and out of the cellar of the East, ahead of New York, who they are level on points with.
Wizards Man of the Match - Kevin Hartman - Another big game by Hartman, he's having an MVP caliber season even if his stats don't show it. His saves late in the game against Richards and van den Bergh were top class.
Honorable Mention - Jimmy Conrad, Kurt Morsink
