The Wizards will be competing in the first ever New Mexico Cup Saturday May 31st in Albuquerque, New Mexico. KC will take on Guatemalan side, CSD Municipal in the match on the University of New Mexico football field at 8 pm Central time. The Wizards don't have an MLS game that weekend, which allows for them to play in this tournament. Municipal is the 25 time Guatemalan league champion and routinely represents the country in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and soon to be Champions League. This past year, Municipal went out to the Houston Dynamo 3-1 on aggregate. For our New Mexico readers, you can get tickets to the game here.
It's not in KC, which I would have liked, but KC is playing an international opponent closer to home at least. Hopefully the international tournament we heard about earlier this year will be announced soon so that KC can finally see some international teams in town.
