After the Wizards first team beat 2-0 last night, the reserves doubled up their first team counterparts, defeating Drake University today 4-0 out at the Swope Park training facility.
Drake hung in the game in the first half, cutting off a lot of space for the Wizards attackers and limiting their chances. Finally the Wizards broke through late in the first half. Off of a corner, Eloy Colombano headed the ball on, and deflected off of a Drake players foot and into the net for the dreaded own goal.
The Wizards probably got a stern talking to at half time, as the reserves came out and were all over the Bulldogs in the second half, scoring two early goals. I missed who the first goal of the second half went in off of, but it was crossed in by Colombano, who looked to be really pushing to impress this today, as he was all over the field and involved in the first 3 goals. The third was when Colombano again played in a cross that Kurt Morsink headed into the net to make it 3-0 Wizards.
The Wizards finished off the scoring when Yomby William dribbled down the wing and put in a cross on the ground that Michael Kraus met and put into the net to make it 4-0. Overall it was a pretty good game for the Wizards, and Drake was able to hang tough for at least the first half. Colombano was the most impressive Wizard today, definitely wanting to push for more first team time.
Here's the Wizards lineup, including the three players still fighting for that last developmental roster spot, they made no subs today.
Kronberg - William, Hohlbein, McKenzie, Pizzaro - Souter, Lowery, Morsink, Kraus - Colombano, Sealy

ReplyDeleteDid your brother player for Drake in this match, Mike?
ReplyDeleteYes he did, missed Drake's best chance, when he just missed connecting on a header from a free kick.
